New Years

I know I haven't posted lately, I haven't really had much to discuss. The vacation has been pretty dull. I've been spending time with friends and catching up with some people I haven't seen in years. I have gotten great reactions to weight loss and hair shave. I promise to have more to say when i get back to work, including what looks like the third silent treatment from my supervisor since I've been there.

I have had a really great year (2006) in reinventing myself. I lost weight. I am more outgoing, more confident. I am not perfect by any means, but the change in me is staggering. However, I was not successful in my 2006 new years resolution, which was to go on three dates with the same guy. I've gone on a couple dates over the last year, but through a mix of bad choices in first dates, or the guys i was interested in not being interested in me, I did not get three dates with the same guy. While this goal was to help me get to know someone before making a decision not to see them again, I do believe the cases where I cut them loose were so horribly bad that it was ok. So with that said, I am not going to make another new years resolution, but carry the current one forward for 2007.

Also, I hope that 2007 will be the year of a new job. Its time for me to move on from my current university. I'll have been there 5 years this summer and I think I've moved up and learned everything I can there. So I will do my best to move on from there and to a place with a bit more maturity and organization.

I hope that all of you have a great New YEars. Drink responsibly. Don't drink and Drive. And may 2007 be the best year you've had yet.

Only in Florida- II

So Christmas news stories: The lead story on every network was "Man walks 10 miles to bus station" Really? THat's the best you can do for a lead story. First of all 10 miles really isnt that much. Second there was no bus route close to his house that could've gotten him to the bus station. I'll be the first to admit that the public transportation system of central florida isn't that great, but its not that horrible either! And think of the poor person who had to sit next to him on the bus. They had footage of him walking and an interview at the bus station. So if they had all this footage of him walking, why didn't they just give him a ride; they were going to the same place anyway. And how did they know he was walking 10 miles. Did they stop and talk to every person walking and be like "excuse me, do you happen to be walking more than 8 miles in a holiday related trek?"

Follow-up story: Tornados damage over 200 houses on Christmas day. Yes, yes. I see how that shouldn't be the main story because its actually newsworthy.

Only in Florida.

only in Florida

Two things from my trip thus far.

1. While driving on I-4 near Sanford, I saw a billboard advertising a caring vasectomy... ummm is this the appropriate way to advertise for this particular medical procedure. In fact, since when do they need to advertise at all? DO you think on the intake questionairre they asked: How did you learn about vasectomies: ___ Friend ____ Doctor ____Billboard on I-4

2. As this horrible storm front crosses the state, the weather channel and the Emergency Broadcast System came on with a tornado warning telling people to take shelter in a room on the bottom floor, etc etc. Then they showed all these facts that for all the tornados that occur on Christmas Day, over half of them occured in FLorida.

and on the national front:

RIP James Brown

RIP Senator Stafford (R-VT)--- those with student loans should recognize that name.

the past week

1. Sorry for the delay in my posting- Something when school gets out my life gets busier just doesn't make sense

2. This is my 100th posting!!!! very exciting

3. I'm drinking every day til Christmas (even though i dont celebrate).

So Tuesday night is our student association's happy hour. I go and its an ok time. Nothing really exciting to report. This one girl there who wasn't in our program but knows friends of mine and works at the same institution i work at told her friends that I'd be her type because I'm a jock. I'M A JOCK!?!?!??! Did i hear that right? AWESOME!!!!! So I've decided to update all my online profiles to say i'm a jock. That's one of the better compliments i've gotten in a while. :)

Wednesday: Rollins Alumni Happy hour. I hang out with Southie, a guy from Rollins who is from Boston, but his accent changes from Bostonian to English, to Australian. But a fun fun guy. We go to Hooters beforehand. He's there before i am. I get there and he says after about 20 minutes. The waitress before kept scowling at me and now she's all friendly. To which i say.. well before she thought you were a pervert for eating here alone to stare at her and now she thinks you're my boyfriend. Then we hit Fado's later for a good time with the bigger alumni group. At some point, we make friends with these people from Iowa and they liked me soo much they invited me out to visit Des Moines.... cold day in hell before i ever go there, but its nice to be invited anyways. they were fun and while a little more conservative than the average DC-er, took my sense of humor well.

Moments ago: (me at work)... phone rings... I answer "Specific Office I work at, this is Scott." I hear BEEP BEEP BEEP. I say: "No, I already picked up you can stop dialing."

it could only happen to me

So I wake up this morning and get ready for work. I had Good Morning America on the tv. Regular morning. I put on my jacket and scarf and was about to put on my backpack and walk out the door.

Pound Pound Pound on my door.

I open the door and there is a police office at the door. He said he received reports that I had been wandering the hallways naked pounding on doors. I was like "WHAT?!?!?!?!" He said that a woman said the man in 512 was pounding on doors naked. He asked if anyone else was with me? I said no. He asked if the apartment building management has spoken to me about it. I'm like no, but i'm never actually here with a full time job and school. He asked where I went to school. He asked me for my id. I gave it to him. He asked for my phone number (and not in the good way). So he said "if you arent doing it you don't have anything to worry about." And it was said in the total way that he didn't believe a word I said.

So I had an instant flash of do I sleep walk. Like I would get out of the bed late at night, undress walk around. Come back to my apartment, get dressed again and go back to bed.

Was there a senile person saying they lived in 512 and I'd come home one day to find out they let him into my apartment.

Was someone out to get me thrown out of the building.

While understanding the humor of the situation, but being on the verge of a breakdown. I called my apartment complex to plead my case and met with the property manager. He was a very nice guy and explained to me that the woman who called the police is a senile woman who had dimentia and hallucinations. She often thinks there are snakes in her apartment. And no one, not even the police officer, thinks I did it.

But its still quite embarrassing to let my neighbors see me talking to a police officer telling me not to walk around naked. I was not happy, but now that its explained I'm much better.

It could only happen to me.

The Breakup

According to People Magazine and every other news outlet, Lance Bass and Reichen have broken up. So after a night of thinking, I decided that Lance should call me. I don't have any other dates lined up currently and I'm not as whorish as Reichen. We might as well give it a shot....

So Lance if you're reading this, give me a call and we can get together before the holidays.

as the semester winds down

This is probabl the first semester in a long long time that I've not been overwhelmed with a million papers, tests, and assignments. This past weekend, I completed my final exam in statistics. Who would've ever thought I'd be any good at stats. But, all I have to do is get half of the questions correct on the final exam to get an A in the class.

In my other class on BUdgeting, the process is not going as smooth. Our final project my group has yet to meet about. I even went as far as starting our paper in the hopes that if I submitted something to the group, they would in turn respond with some comments, discussion, work of their own. Sadly, they haven't. So I had to send a terse email stating we would meet tonight no excuses!!!! I know they've had other work to do in their other classes, but I really hate waiting til the last minute to do work. If i knew this was all behind me, I could get started on more important things in my life, like how to get really good deals on my holiday shopping and save money this year.... Would my family really know their gift was from a dollar store? Will I really have to do all my shopping on New Years Eve? Because that would really suck!

After tonight, I might have classroom drama to report on from a heated discussion that occured last week... we'll see.
